With a very strict time today, I just took a TAXICAB on all my appointments. And I just realized, based from my observation on the QUEUE, we are the most Polite passengers whenever we take Taxi in Manila.
Why?
Scenario1
passenger : Manong, Makati?
driver : Ay! Trapik don!
lesson : we ended up being turned down, because we handed him the "leverage" to choose between where to go and where not to go.
It is polite in a sense that we assume that the TAXIs have this "sole" right to choose where to go, but in reality , and look closely on the items written on the car, it clearly says "TO ANY POINT IN LUZON/MANILA" which means they don't have the right to refuse.
Scenario2
passenger: Manong, Makati
driver : nodded
passenger : sigh of relief (since it took him about 10 minutes under 32degrees to take a cab)
another 10 minutes have passed .....
passenger : realized that the meter was not running, asked the driver, "manong, bakit di ho tumatakbo metro nyo, nakalimutan nyo yata"
lesson: we politely accepted the drivers acceptance on the route , but not too keen on observing the basic procedures, and later ended up "paying" more just because the driver felt it was our "priviledge" that we took his taxi on that trip.
Scenario2 :
passenger : Manong, Makati?
driver : nodded, and said "BOSS Kayo na po bahala sa akin"
lesson : We instantly became a GODFATHER of his family that we are obliged to increase the standard fare. I personally make it a point to tip the driver depending on his performance on the road , which includes his road discipline, and ability to converse with the passenger, and how he manages the volume of his AM radio.
Personally, our "taxi" culture were based on the notion that we are "just" passengers. But whenever I go to places like Hongkong, China and Specifically Japan, the procedure is different, and It's very simple.
1. call a taxi
2. get inside
3. tell the driver where will you go.
That's it! no haggling, no jedi mind tricks!
I had applied the same procedure whenever I'm in Manila, and lucky only 5% turned me down, I just point out to the remaining 95%their very basic and important role as a cab driver.
5%? yeah, they have a pretty clever reasons
1. coding
2. they don't have enough time for the carbarn
3. they don't have enough LPGas
I just hope that, when you go to Manila, you'll do the same thing that I do, and you will not be stressed out.
And just to be on the safe side, I have with me the numbers of the largest taxi operators in manila,
1. EMP - 2935931
2. MGE - 3636096
3. RENO - 9313272
Just tell them where do you want to be picked up, and they will tell you the estimated time that they'll be there.

Busy Day!!
I had a busiest day today!
But the good thing about this one is that, I was able to accomplish what I want, specially on the business matters.
I was planning on having a "quick" massage on a mall but it was already closed.
A person on your peer, will do everything just to be able to get a grip on you, specially if their interests aligns with what you have. Good thing I can see thru them and validates invaluable prospects along the way.

Gran Torino
I was thinking between Gran Torino and Valkyrie , but opted instead on watching Gran Torino, since I watched Clint Eastwood's recent interview with David Letterman. Not that I believe everything Letterman says, but still Clint Eastwood is Clint Eastwood.
I have never understood "Unforgiven" until this movie. The plot is very simple and straightforward, and it doesn't need a cinematic genius to uncover the whole story.
But what is clearly visible is Clint's physical stature, I mean the guy is already 79 yrs old
and could still perform that "dirty harry" look, he even did a bathroom scene, hehehehe.
All in all Gran Torino is another Eastwood Jewel, and I was fortunate enough to see most of his films , particularly the films that he either directed or produced, which had given him both his creative freedom and ability to present the deeper understanding of the character he portrays.
One of my wish list for Clint , is for him to do a collaboration with Hugh Jackman, which is a 100% your version of him, perhaps a father and son story , or a "dirty harry" remake wherein the original "dirty harry" will pass the torch to the "new dirty harry" , but that would be too shallow, maybe a "billion dollar baby!".

pldt customer service
Business as usual for PLDT , but not for me! Have cancelled some appointments just to make sure that the problem will be resolved within the day !

me : i see, so hanggang saan lang ang kaya nyo?
pldt 171 : (an awkward pause)
pldt 171 : Sir, tawag na lang po kayo sa 171-1312
me : ah ok, thank you.
me : (dialled again!)
pldt 171-1312 : welcome to pldt how may i help you
me : good am , follow up ko lang yung problem namin sa internet connectio namin
me : (waiting , patiently ....)
me : actually , halos paulit ulit tayo , dahil since the other day , puro ELEVATE, FOLLOW-UP, NAKA LINE-UP ang sinasabi nyo sa akin, tapos minsan sira pa yata yang trunk line nyo dahil kung san san ako napupunta kahit tama naman ang dial ko.
pldt 171-1312 : (awkward pause again!)
Our internet connection problem was resolved at around 5:30pm , but still with intermittent connection. Tested the speed and performance , but some remote connection from japan, us and taiwan cannot be reached!
In short, PLDT customer service still SUCKS!!! , I have wasted some "quality" time just to attend this simpliest matter.

Jailbreak!
After a week of research , preparation and discussion with a friend (Thanks FRANK!!!!) , I was able to Jailbreak my iPHONE safely without any glitch. I was a bit hesitant at first since today is Friday the 13th! but persuaded myself later.

The first screen while QuickPwn is running. It's actually modifying the kernel and boot options so that you can take full control of the iPHONE's OS.

First BOOT. The PineApple is not actually Dancing, but looks like it! At this stage, CYDIA & INSTALLER (2 major components of a Jailbroken iPHONE) is being installed.
The good thing is that , while the iPHONE Devteam is still battling that modem firware war, the latest workable firware shouldbe 2.2/5G77 & Baseband 2.28.00 , and with this sets of firmwares you can already perform a boot insert startup of "yellowsn0w" so that you can already "open" your phone to any carrier.
That's for all know, but i'm thinking of posting an actual tutorial on how i did it, but there are too many already on the net, including the iCLARIFIED version which I think is one of the most comprehensive tutorials available.
Ingredients :
1. QuickPwn
2. .NET Framework 2.02
3. iPHONE fw.2.2

Keep In Mind 1
To limit ourselves on our full potential, is to deny the very essence
of our existence.

Slumdog Millionaire
Watched It! Loved It!
There are movies that you watch because It's an expected blockbuster, These movies can provide estimated revenues based from their casts' blockbuster status and the "buzz" which includes awards and other critic reviews.
And there are movies which makes a critic out of ourselves. Slumdog Millionaire is one of it.
I can say, that the movie has no dull moment, perhaps you can see some dullness is because of the lack of cinematic approach on the scene. The director somewhat struggled on these things due to the greatness and richness of the script and it's original story. But it is negligible.
See the movie, and you'll never regret it.
Trivias :
1. The pile of excreta that the young Jamal jumps into and was made from a combination of peanut butter and chocolate.
2. Dev Patel who plays Jamal is actually British.
3. Mercedes-Benz asked that its logos be removed in scenes taking place in the slums. The Company, according to Danny Boyle, did not want to be associated with the poverty-stricken area, fearing that that might taint its image.
4. Director Danny Boyle placed the money to be paid to the 3 lead child actors in a trust that is to be released to them upon their completion of grade school at 16 years of age. The production company has set up for an auto-rikshaw driver to take the kids to school everyday until they are 16 years old.
5. Given the ultimate critical acclaim bestowed on this film, it's hard to believe it almost went straight to DVD.

one saturday morning.
sometimes, you do have questions lurking thru your mind,
and with proper enlightment you'll also have your own answers .....
"sacrifices are needed to achieve greatness,
even if it means negating yourself to others."
Just imagine with one cup of idea, It could fill everybody's needs,
but some will not be satisfied at all.

Recession 2.0
As the americans, depleted their liquidity , the world is again on the brink of financial extinction. americans believe that their "formidable" ability to turn-around the situation is being observed by the top analyst in the world , and I'm hoping that they'll succeed in battling it.
You see, I'm currently in Japan , and as one of the world's largest economy , my second home , was severely affected by the meltdown of wallstreet. August 2008 was when I first heard of the meltdown , but didn't realize it's enormous effect ... a DOMINO EFFECT.
What I can do, is to keep on buying the basic things. With this little deed I'm making sure that the flow of money keeps on going, because when we cease to spend, it has a ripple effect that could outgrow itself , so I'm spending ..... wisely.
Yesterday was the start of a "3 Saturday" day in Japan ,specifically in my area. We went hopping on shopping centers, food courts but we were amazed on the "almost" empty attendance by shoppers. Usually , a Japanese Holiday is a combination of gluttony and electronic fest, wherein busy shoppers could buy a 50 inch HDTV without hesitation and do "yakiniku" later.
But this Holiday is different. And I hope it is as temporary as a bad dream.
